This Week’s Theme: Food
This week we are learning about food. In order to further your child’s learning at home, try some of the following:
- practise saying the words for foods and drinks around the home or in shops
- ask your child to name the foods he/she is eating for breakfast, lunch and dinner
- Practise the following phrases:
I am eating….
I ate …..
I like ….
I don’t like …..
I am hungry/thirsty.
Feeding the birds
We have been looking after the birds in our yard this week. In class we made bird feeders with seeds and apples. We hung them in the trees in our yard.
During lunch time we made a little bird feeder with twigs and berries. We had great fun!
Bothar visitor
Our school had a visit from Bothar – the charity we help with our globe day money each year. Aisling came and showed us photos and explained how our money helps them to send animals to the very poor countries. We have sent chickens most years which are very helpful.
We saw how they get a plane and then lorries to their new families. We also saw that the families have to have training to learn how to look after their new animals properly. Also every family gives some of the new born animals to another family in the village !
In this way our gift keeps on going and growing ! Many families and villages benefit from our globe day coins. It is a wonderful gift for so many. Aisling , and the teachers too, are very grateful for your help in sending in the coins when you can.
Thank you
Tree Planting for National Tree Day
Margaret planted the tree with us outside the front of the school. We can watch this tree grow into a fantastic horse chestnut tree as we get older. It will produce horse chestnuts or “conkers” as it grows.
Reminders
Parents have two notes in the chidren’s bag today – do have a read please.
The children have a newly made up Mathletic card, it’s a re make of their card details from 1st class – so details the same as before! They get to play agàinst themselves – their own score , as well as others. Those who have got into in are really enjoying it. If the weather over the break isn’t good this would be ideal !
We hope it’s a nice dry day tomorrow for our annual Witches Walk !
We have one last swimming lesson after the break , make sure every child gets to enjoy it .
